The Canvas of Cancer illustrates the many complexities of this disease. April is Minority and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month, and in light of that, we are hosting a community conversation about the different experiences associated with cancer. It is to bring awareness and education and see cancer as a blank easel because everyone's picture looks different.
TimesUP Productions CEO Tiffany White was diagnosed at the age of 27 with Uterine Cancer, but according to the world around her, she never looked “sick.” This event allows caretakers, survivors, family members, and everyone to discuss their journeys openly. Let’s create this canvas by debunking myths, allowing our esteemed guests to share their stories, and allowing you to showcase yours.
Our guests for the evening all have a unique experience with cancer:
Kanesha Broadwater -Breast Cancer Survivor & Radiation Oncology Nurse
Ali Cole - Thyroid Cancer Survivor
Steven Jackson - Caretaker of Parent
Dr. Jasmine James - AYA Survivor-Cervical Cancer
We will have a night of tears, laughter, and fun, as well as resources from Gilda's Club Chicago, Grow Greater Englewood & other wellness vendors with additional support from psychologist Dr. George Smith. We encourage our guests to utilize these resources to be educated and uplifted and to help them paint their personal experiences (figuratively and literally). Cancer affects every human differently, and we want to honor that with you.
Please join us for light refreshments, a community painting, and curating the vibes of the night DJ Trellis.
Thank you to Grow Greater Englewood for sponsoring this event.
